Liberty Flights Stocks Decadent Vapours e-Liquid

Liberty Flights has now added the excellent Decadent Vapours range of e-liquid to their online store. If you like to buy UK produced products, then you will be pleased to know that Decadent Vapours is a UK company producing quality e-liquids in South Wales.

All their ingredients are sourced from within the EU and then mixed and packaged in their UK factory. The Nicotine used is of the highest quality pharma-grade, and all packaging and labelling is fully CHIP compliant.

The range includes 6 Mint/Menthol flavours, 14 tobacco flavours, 4 Coffee flavours, 2 Chocolate flavours, 4 fruit flavours and 21 sweet or savoury flavours. That’s 41 flavours in total, so you should be a flavour to suit your taste buds.

I tend to mix my own e-liquids but I do like the DV Parma Violet and Strawberry Tart for when I fancy vaping something different, I wouldn’t vape those two all day but they are nice for a change.

Currently Liberty Flights only stock the PG based liquids and in 2 strengths of 11mg and 24mg, but do have the 5ml tester bottles along with the larger 30ml bottles. At just £2.99 for a 5ml bottle you can try out different flavours without breaking the bank. 30ml bottles are a very reasonable £14.49 which is one of the lowest prices I’ve seen for Decadent Vapours e-liquids.

If you enter VAP10 at checkout you’ll get an extra 10% off of the already low prices.

LR Totally Wicked Tornado Tank Atomizers In Stock

Totally Wicked are now stocking LR (Low Resistance) Tornado Tank atomizers. I haven’t actually tried these as yet, but I’ve seen some good reports on them.

LR or Low Resistance atomizers are designed to simulate 5 volt vaping on a standard 3.7 volt battery such as the Tornado battery. What this usually means is that the LR atomizer will usually produce more vapour and throat hit than the standard atomizers. Flavour can often be reduced with the LR atomizers as the coil (the part that heats and vaporises the e-liquid) runs hotter, this can also lead to shorter lifespan for the atomizer so they tend to be cheaper with a limited warranty.

I personally don’t like a strong throat hit which is why I haven’t tried them, but I may do so in the future. If you want to give them a try they are currently just £8.99 each from the Totally Wicked e-Liquid website.

Happy new year

I know this is a little late but I thought I wish everyone a happy new year anyway, and as far as vaping goes it already looks like 2011 will be a good one for the vaping community with some new and welcome products being produced.

One such new product line is cartomizers for the M402, which I’m reliably informed will be stocked by Mirage Cigarettes. This is great news for anyone like me that likes to have an electronic that looks like a regular cigarette but finds filling the small cartridges a bit of a pain.

Totally Wicked have some new products on the way as well, one that is still in development at the moment is a portable mixing desk and case, which will let you mix your liquids on the move and provide a nice storage area for liquids and flavourings that can be carried around with you. I think they aim to get this ready by around March.

Another product which has got many people excited, including myself, is the Tornado Tank system that does away with the need for cartridges and fluval or blue foam in favour of a clear tank that contains nothing but your favourite e-liquid.

The clear tank simply pushes into a specially designed atomiser which will fit on to any standard Tornado battery. To check how much liquid is left in the tank is simply a matter of pulling the tank out of the atomiser and looking through the clear plastic. No more messing with filler, blue foam or any of a number of other mods you can find on the forums.

Early reviews like the one below look promising. Right now you can pre-order the Tornado Tank kits or just the atomisers and cartridges from Totally Wicked, but they are not due in stock until about the 12th January 2011.

Automatic or Manual Battery?

Automatic or manual battery, which is best? That is the question.

And the answer is neither or both!

Both have their place their and uses. I personally use both types of battery but my preference is for automatic batteries as they are closer to to what I was used to when smoking tobacco cigarettes.

On some sites and forums you may come across people who say that you should only use manual batteries, as automatics are too temperamental. So far I’ve not found this to be a real problem, although some automatics will activate on their own in wind or if subjected to vibrations or knocks, Titan 510 batteries are known for this.

How you use your electronic cigarette will have a bearing on which type of battery is best for you, particularly if you like to direct drip your liquid into the atomiser. The reason for this is that manual batteries have a sealed core, whereas automatic batteries have a hole in the centre to allow for air movement to activate the battery. If you add to much liquid at a time there is a risk that you’ll flood the atomiser and excess liquid can find it’s way into the core of an automatic battery causing it to short out and die. You don’t have the problem with manual batteries as they are sealed so no liquid is able penetrate them.

Manual batteries also allow you to control how long you inhale on them as they tend not to have a cut off period as automatic batteries tend to have,aA lot of automatic batteries cut off after 5 seconds on a continuous inhale. As soon as you press the button on a manual battery the atomiser starts to heat up so you can pre heat it before taking a drag if you wish.

From what I’ve so far you may be thinking that manual batteries are a far better option, but they do have draw backs as well. One is that you can’t just drop it into your pocket as you can with an automatic, as there is a high chance that the button will press against something and be activated. As there is no cut off you can easily drain a battery this way, and if it’s attached to an atomiser you may end up with a rather warm leg.

Another thing I have found with manual batteries is that they seem to heat the atomiser more than automatics, which can lad to an alteration in flavour to your liquids and also affect the wicking capabilities of the cartridge filler.

I have a Titan 510 with both automatic and manual batteries. If I use the automatic battery I can a longer time between top ups than I can with the manual battery. I also find that flavours are better and and the vapour not as harsh on my throat. I put this down to the atomiser not getting as hot.

The two batteries are rated at the same power levels so the differences in vapour and flavour are probably down to the way I use them. With automatics I tend to take a quick primer puff and then the main drag, but I don’t seem to be able to simulate this with a manual battery and am probably holding the button to long, but if I try to cut down on the amount of time I hold the button I don’t get the same vapour production.

For me personally and the way I use my electronic cigarettes the automatic batteries work best, because I prefer something that looks and reacts like a cigarette and find direct dripping annoying. For other people though the manual batteries are better especially if you like direct dripping.

So as you can see it’s not a case of one style suits all, and I would always recommend people try out both styles of battery themselves to see what suits their needs best. A lot of starter kits around at the moment will ship with 2 manual batteries, but I’d much rather see a manual and an automatic battery included as this could solve some of the problems people have when starting out with their first electronic cigarette.

Nicotine Cartridge Polyester Wading Replacement

If you refill your electronic cigarette cartridges you may have noticed that after a few refills they don’t work as well as they did when you first got them, and that the polyester wading that they were supplied with becomes dirty and clogged. At this point you may be tempted to simply throw them away and buy more.

There is an alternative to throwing them away however which is a cheaper and greener option, and that is to simply replace the polyester wading. But where do you get the replacement wading I here you ask? That my friends is the question, and the answer is simply your local pet shop. Admittedly a pet shop isn’t the first place that springs to mind when thinking about electronic cigarette accessories, but the Polyester pads used by Fluval aquarium filters is made from the same material as used in electronic cigarette cartridges.

There are 2 different pads that can be used: ‘Fluval Plus’ and ‘Fluval Water Polishing Pads’. Of the two I prefer the ‘Water Polishing Pads’ as they are larger, and so go further, but more importantly they have a more open texture that allows the e-liquid to flow through it better and wick down to the atomiser below.

Spare Cartridge Holder – 34mm Film Container

35mm Film Container / Nicotine Cartridge Holder

35mm Film Container / Nicotine Cartridge Holder

If you are old enough to remember the days before digital photography when cameras used 35mm film, then you may still have some of the containers that the film came in lying at the back of your junk drawer, I know I did.

These containers are the perfect size for carnying some spare nicotine cartridges or atomizers for your favourite electronic cigarette, or even a plastic 5ml dropper bottle and an atomiser if you prefer to direct drip.

5ml Dropper & Atomiser

5ml Dropper & Atomiser

I tend to use these 35mm film containers with my Super Mini (RN4081) and each container has space for 7 cartridges inside. I currently tend to use 3 atomisers, each one with a different flavour cartridge. In the black cartridge I use French Apple Tart and Tiramisu, in brown cartridges I have Roasted Nut and in a white cartridge, which came with a replacement atomiser, I use Totally Wicked’s Hilton e-liquid.

Most of the time I just use them to keep my 5ml plastic dropper bottles of e-liquid and the related atomiser together, so that they don’t get mixed up. I can then just grab the container I want as I head out of the door.

If you like this idea but don’t have any of they film containers they can usually be found quite readily on ebay, either empty or you may find some out of date film being sold off cheap.

Can Electronic Cigarettes Be Used In Enclosed Public Spaces?

In theory anyway, the answer to this question is yes! In practice you may find some objections.

The use of electronic cigarettes in public places is not controlled by the smoking ban, however in some restaurants and bars you may still be asked to refrain from using them or to go outside. The reason for this is normally because the owners are unsure of the law, and rather than risk prosecution under the smoking ban they simply won’t allow the use of electronic cigarettes on the premises.

The health act of 2006 banned the smoking of tobacco based cigarettes in enclosed public places. With the definition of smoking being stated as :

“smoking refers to smoking tobacco or anything which contains tobacco, or smoking any other substance, and smoking includes being in possession of lit tobacco or of anything lit which contains tobacco, or being in possession of any other lit substance in a form in which it could be smoked”.

That means that one of 2 conditions needs to be met in order for the electronic cigarette to controlled by the smoking ban:

  • The product needs to contain tobacco! – Electronic Cigarettes do not contain tobacco in any form.
  • The Product needs to be lit! - Electronic Cigarettes have no burning parts, therefore they are not lit.

As electronic cigarettes do not meet either of these criteria they are not affected by the smoking ban. There is no tobacco or fire and they certainly don’t meet the definition smoking defined as ‘lit Tobacco‘ or ‘any other lit substance in a form in which it could be smoked‘.

Restaurant and bar owners do still have the right to ask that electronic cigarettes are not used on their premises if they wish to, but there is no legal reason why they can’t be used. It’s always a good idea to get the owner or managers consent before using an electronic cigarette so as to avoid any misunderstandings and confusion. You then have the choice of staying or taking your business elsewhere.

The use of electronic cigarettes in an enclosed public spaces is not restricted by the smoking ban, only ignorance, confusion and prejudice.

Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking?

This isn’t quite as straightforward a question as you may think. Personally I feel the answer is yes but that’s not to say they would work for everyone.

For one thing there hasn’t been any long term medical studies performed on electronic cigarettes, so from a medical point of view there is no definite answer to this question.

On a personal level,l what works for one person may not work for another. Some people find nicotine chewing gums helped them give up smoking, personally I couldn’t get on with them, the few I tried tasted awful and a few made me feel sick. Patches are another product that many people have successfully used to quit, but again I couldn’t get on with them. I either forgot to put one on or they would attach themselves to my clothing or just irritate my skin. So from this point of view I couldn’t say that electronic cigarettes would help everyone quit their smoking habit.

What I would say though is that they are well worth trying, and have one major benefit over other products on the market aimed at getting you to give up smoking, and that advantage is that you can continue to go through the motion of smoking without inhaling the harmful smoke.

As far as I’m concerned there are 2 facets of smoking that need to be dealt with. The first is the Nicotine addiction, and then there is the physical habit. It’s the physical habit of smoking that tends to beat me most of the time.

I’ve smoked for over 20 years and actually enjoy smoking, although that is probably something I shouldn’t say in this day and age. I enjoy a cigarette with a cup of coffee, after a meal and with a pint which is a part of the problem. To give up you need to be 100%  committed. I know the harm I’m doing myself but  whenever you are told you can’t do something that you enjoy you just want it even more.

This is where the Electronic cigarette is of use, I can still go through the motions of smoking whilst avoiding the really harmful smoke. I can still reach for the electronic cigarette when having a coffee or a pint, I can take it with me when I take the dog for a walk and I can use it after a meal.

The Electronic Cigarette also allows you to break the Nicotine habit, as cartridges can be purchased with Nicotine levels from 16mg down 0mg. If you are a heavy smoker you can start with the higher level cartridge and gradually over time reduce the levels down to 0mg.

So if you were to ask me the question “Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking?”, them personally I’d say yes, especially if you have already tried the other options and failed. My problem has always been breaking the physical habit more than anything else. By using the Electronic Cigarette I don’t feel like a part of me has been removed and am gradually using it less and less.
